We returned to Edgbaston Golf Club for the second year in a row, this time to renovate eight bunkers as designed by Martin Ebert of Mackenzie and Ebert golf course architects.
It’s always a pleasure to be back at this picturesque parkland course, a local favourite for the P Quinn Construction team. Situated in central Birmingham, it was originally designed by Harry S. Colt and has a rich heritage dating back to 1896. We’re always proud to play our part in adding to its continuous development and getting to work with the fantastic team there.
The aim for this project was not only to improve drainage, but also to add impact for golfers by reinstalling historic design features into the course, in addition to streamlining the management of the bunkers for the greenkeeping team.
P Quinn Construction were responsible for shaping the bunkers to the new Mackenzie and Ebert design, installing new drainage and applying a layer of type 1 stone ready to hand over for blinder installation.
Once the blinder was complete, we cut and fitted turf blocks from the club’s turf nursery around the bunker’s sand line before applying topsoil and turfing the surrounds, ready to hand back to the greenkeeping team to manage the grow in.
Despite being extremely unlucky with the weather and having weeks of torrential rain, the P Quinn Construction team pulled together to ensure the project was completed on time, the working area was kept tidy, and the results were of the highest standard.
